    Keynote speakers for the EFLA regional congress "Mind the Gap. Landscapes for a New Era”.
    Jan Gehl (Denmark), Mary Bowman (United Kingdom), Elias Torres (Spain) and Maria Ignatieva (Sweden) are the first announced keynote speakers for the EFLA regional congress „Mind the Gap. Landscapes for a New Era" taking place 2-4 November in Tallinn (Estonia).
    Jan Gehl is a practicing urban design consultant and a professor of urban design at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark. His publications Life Between Buildings, Public Spaces - Public Life and New Urban Spaces have been translated into multiple languages and published in various countries across Europe, North America, and Asia.

    Mary Bowman has worked as a company director at Gustafson Porter since 2004. Together with Kathryn Gustafson and Neil Porter, Mary is responsible for the direction of the office and has been involved in the development and completion of numerous landscape architecture projects that have received critical acclaim both nationally and internationally.

    Elías Torres Tur is a Spanish architect and partner in the firm Martínez Lapeña-Torres Arquitectos, S.L. His work varies from detailed street furniture to large scale urban renewal projects. The projects and completed works of "Martínez Lapeña-Torres Arquitectos" are widely exhibited and published in numerous monographs and catalogues.

    Maria Ignatieva is a professor in urban ecology and design at the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences. She has worked extensively in Russia, the USA, New Zealand and recently in Sweden. Her current interests include ‘putting nature back into neighborhoods’, theoretical, methodological and practical approaches to sustainable landscape design in the era of globalization with an  emphasis to urban biodiversity and design as well as history of landscape architecture, restoration and conservation of historical parks and gardens.
    This congress will provide the opportunity for landscape architects and other professionals of related fields, from all over the world, to exchange views, share experience and solutions to achieve new landscapes, in order to achieve high quality living environment, and to define the modern cityscape.

    The deadline for abstracts is June 1, 2011.
