Implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity in towns and cities

We would like to warmly invite you to the cultural heart of Germany for the 3rd Conference of the Competence Network Urban Ecology. Our international conference "Urban Biodiversity and Design" will summarise for the first time in a global context current scientific and practical approaches of implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in urban areas. The case for urban biodiversity:
- Distinctive characteristics of urban ecosystems
- Centres of evolution and adaptation (e. g. important in the context of climate change)
- Complex hotspots and melting pots for biodiversity
- The only biodiversity which many people experience
- Contributing to the quality of life in an increasingly urban global society - 2007 the first time 50 % of the world population is living in cities
